THEATRE and dance
I remain a creative whose aim is to write, tell and produce Theatre works that have meaning and are related to the context created in. I find students and people connect more with such works. Furthermore my aim is to digitize Theatre more: theatre has remained in the background while Film has thrived in multiple ways. I believe Theatre can perhaps do the same, expose itself to a wider audience by infusing technology and AI.
Welcome II Gomora
In a town engulfed with crime, one pastor sets out to cleanse the community of its evil deeds through the word of “God” but one young man is in his way, staging the pastor’s way in unjust ways. This production looks at the act of community justice and how it can impact individuals around.
Nonkululeko (Freedom)
Three South Africans who are somehow defined by their generational age gap, are united under one mission to find freedom at all cost. In their relentless pursuit of freedom, they resort to robbing South Africa of its treasures. However, having succeeded on their plan they soon realize that what they need most is not among the treasures and events of South Africa. In their last attempt to “uhuru” they decided to hold three pillars (namely: Past, Present and Possible Future) of South Africa, hostage in a fashion that see them undergo both an emotional and psychological journey of defining for themselves what is freedom to them respectively.
In every dance I create, there’s a story waiting to be told. It’s about seeing things in new ways and bringing those different views to life. My choreography isn’t just about steps and routines; it’s about making a statement, sharing a perspective, and connecting with the audience on multiple levels.
Intimate
This performances blend media visuals with dynamic movement to explore the essence of intimacy and body language. Audiences are drawn into a captivating dance where every subtle movement speaks volumes, revealing the deep connections between dancers, their bodies, and the space around them. We delve into the intricate relationships within ourselves, with others, and the unique expressive languages that emerge from these interactions.
Classi_filed
A piece that depicts the role clothing plays in our lives. Our self-identity, personalities, and work seem to morph with what we wear; while others revere clothing others yearn to free themselves from the garments they wear. The work plays around giving these garments their own personal identity, while performers also try to find out who they are within these clothes.
Emb(race)
This work looks at the stereotypical generalization around the emotionally constipated male. It looks at the male’s vulnerability, grace, humor, tenderness and insecurities (Keefe, 2007; 82). Questions: what according to society is the male allowed to do in the social environment? Should he embrace his femininity? It explores the contracting emotions of males: dangerous mixed with their comforting (feminine side).
Thembelani
This work is an interrogation of the education system in the perspective of an African child. The work looks at how the current “education system” is fed into the body of a black child, package and sold as his/her only hope for survive. It reinforces the need to change the education system in it’s entirety to allow growth.
